Links between natural environments and learning: evidence briefing
There is now a substantial body of evidence which tends to demonstrate a positive association between learning which takes place in the natural environment and delivery of a diverse range of learning processes and outcomes, including cognitive outcomes and attitudinal, social and developmental outcomes in people of all ages.
Landscapes for learning
Many of the established forest gardens in the UK are in private ownership, however many of them are also used as teaching spaces to learn about forest gardening or about permaculture and others can be visited by arrangement. The planting of more forest gardens on publicly owned land will provide additional opportunities for people to use and explore these spaces both for personal enjoyment and also for more organised learning of all kinds.
